We pause to honor the land beneath Wild Presence Collective—these hills, canyons, and coastlines that have long held stories older than memory. What we now call Los Angeles and Topanga rests on the sacred homelands of the Gabrieleno Tongva, Chumash, and Fernandeño Tataviam peoples.

For millennia, these Indigenous communities moved with the rhythms of this place—tending to the land, the waters, the winds. They built lives here rich in culture, language, ceremony, and relationship—relationships that continue today through their descendants and living traditions. We acknowledge that this land was never ceded, and we recognize the violence of colonization that attempted to erase these communities. Yet still, they endure. Still, they protect and honor what remains.

May we do the same—with humility and care. May this acknowledgment not be a formality, but an invitation: to listen more deeply, to learn the names and stories that came before us, and to move forward in right relationship with the original stewards of this land.
